MAYER, Shirley Joanne (Zink) December 12, 1928 - October 9, 2012. Joanne went to her heavenly home at 1:00pm on October 9, 2012 at her daughter Peggy's home near Greenfield, Ohio. She was born December 12, 1928 in Dayton, Ohio to Cyril and Justine (Belvo) Zink as the oldest of ten children. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred C. Mayer. She is survived by her six children: Larry (Susie) Mayer of Jeffersonville; Shirley Pettit of Washington CH; Don (Kathy) Mayer of Mason; John (Carol)Mayer of Wilmington; Bill Mayer of Cleve, Iowa, and Peggy (Steve) Strahler of Greenfield. In addition to her six children, her family also includes 19 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her 9 brothers and sisters: Zane Zink, Evodine South, Urbie Zink, Dale Zink, Carroll Zink and Bob Zink, all of Miamisburg; Dolores White, Peoria, AZ; Rolly Zink , Fairfield Glade, TN; and Judy Zink, Sun City, AZ. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including those living in Remering, France.

Throughout her life she attended several Catholic churches beginning with her baptism at Our Lady of Good Hope, Miamisburg; St. Colman of Cloyne, Washington CH; St. Columbkille, Wilmington and most recently St. Benignus, Greenfield. Joanne was a past member of the Women of St. Colman, The Fayette County Commission on Aging and The Beta Child Conservation League. She volunteered at Fayette Memorial Hospital, Meals on Wheels, and was also a 4-H advisor. She enjoyed bowling, cooking, traveling, gardening, canning, playing cards, bingo and her pen pal clubs, black angus cattle and attending the county fair. She truly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially reunions, luncheons with cousins, mystery trips with grandchildren ,and any occasion that celebrated a milestone or special event in one of her family members lives. Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 13, 10:30 am at St. Colman of Cloyne, 219 S. North St., Washington CH. with Father Jimmy Hatfield officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday, October 12 from 2 to 7:30pm with Vigil Service beginning at 7:30 followed by eulogies and praying of the rosary. There will be additional visitation on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:00am prior to the funeral mass. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to one of Joanne's favorite charities: Heifer International P.O. Box 6021 Albert Lea, MN 56007. Contributions may also be made to Fayette Memorial Hospital Foundation or to the charity of your choice . Arrangements are under the direction of Morrow Funeral Home.
